What about all these numbers?

These pings are generated every 6 minutes, the last two sequences are visible so you might get an idea about a trend (if there is one ;-). Since 5 ping packets are statistically rather irrelevant you should take any loss ratios with a big spoon of salt. ^_-

The first router in the list is ingate.hrz.tu-darmstadt.de, the router at the local university in Darmstadt. If this link is up all of the equipment I control (partially, no access to the uni on weekends/after hours) is operational.

The next one is ZR-Frankfurt1.WiN-IP.DFN.DE, if it's unreachable you can just about forget any international connectivity, but national links to other academic sites might still be operational.

The third router is ir-perryman1.WiN-IP.DFN.DE, the transition point to basically all transatlantic links.

The fourth one is the transition point to "TEN", the european 34Mbit/s academic network. A lot of connections to european countries will use this route.

The last router is one of the "exits" of the 2 MCI links (each with 45Mbit/s) which handle most of the transatlantic (and beyond) traffic.

Of course other routers along the way to your destination can have problems or these links can be overloaded, the internet is growing a tad too fast in some places...
